Who is St Agnes’ Parish, Port Macquarie?
St Agnes’ Parish is a very large parish located in the Port Macquarie region. The parish oversees a large portfolio of services and is one of the largest employers in Port Macquarie.
What was the project?
Due to the size of the parish’s operations, St Agnes’ often struggles with the perception locally that it is a business more than a faith community.
The parish contracted Lucid Media to create a series of short documentaries that were designed to show the impact of the services on people’s lives – the reason behind the finances. This particular piece focused on St Joseph’s Family Services – an organisation set up to support families with children younger than school age.
A day after the birth of his twin boys and with two kids under 10 – father Colin Magill lost his wife Megan to a brain hemorrhage. Still grieving, he moved to Port Macquarie to be closer to Megan’s family but knew he still needed help to keep his young family together. This moving piece shows how St Joseph’s Family Services walked together with Colin and his kids from in-home care to school.
St Agnes’ was able to take control of its own narrative with a powerful piece of storytelling that got to the heart of its mission both within its parish and the wider community.
